With the upcoming release of “The Keepers” on June 6th, 2011, I thought it would be fun to speak to some of the characters. They’ve agreed to give me some of their valuable time, and I will post their interviews over the days leading up to the release. Hope you enjoy. I always love spending time with them!
Jess hates God. In his infinite wisdom, he’s taken everyone she’s ever loved. Moving to the French Quarter was a ploy to erase the guilt she felt for rebuking her faith. Perhaps, if she hadn’t met Justin, an angel preoccupied with getting back into God’s good graces, and drowning in his hatred for humanity, her plan would have worked.
Justin’s general disdain for the human race makes him difficult to like, but some higher power has appointed him her keeper. Justin’s convinced he can mend her broken relationship with her maker, but in the process he learns a thing or two about his own humanity.
Never mind, falling in love, that’s not supposed to happen. In fact, it may even be forbidden. Jess just wants Justin to understand her plight, and he wants to protect her from a world she doesn’t know.
If neither are equipped to save the other, then whose soul lives and whose will perish?
Justin thanks for taking time out to answer a few questions for me. I know it’s not your favorite thing to do.
Justin: No response he just shrugged and glanced around at the people who were coming into and leaving the room, as though it annoyed him.
Q. Okay we’ll jump right into it then. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Justin: Rolled his eyes with a crooked grin. Being with Jess makes me happy…whatever that means. Well actually, it usually means putting up with her quirks and emotions. We have a hot/cold relationship I guess…wait that sounded bad…I do love her.
Q. What’s your favorite job that you’ve had?
Justin: I work at the casino now. I’d have to say it’s been my favorite, because watching the patterns and the way the cards fall, keeps my mind off the ridiculous humans who surround me.
Q. What is your most prized possession?
Justin: I don’t put too much stock into possessions. That’s a human thing; you all add up the worth of your belongings and use that as a guide for your own worth.
I shifted in my chair here, realizing he’d included me in human’s he found repulsive.
Q. Who is the one person you despise?
Justin: That’s pretty easy. Dawson.
Q. Okay…let me think of something harder then…What is your greatest regret?
Justin: He looked down at his hands and didn’t say anything for minutes, and then…I hate the way I’ve treated my brother, Rory. I don’t usually give much thought to the way things will affect him, until it’s too late.
Q. Okay one last question, then I’ll let you go…If you had the ability to die and come back as any person or thing you wanted, what would it be?
Justin: He laughs and runs his fingers through his black hair… Perhaps, just the ability to die would be interesting.
Look out for more interviews from the characters in “The Keepers” to come!
